Will we ever get a new bridge?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Hello again to my combine of loyal readers. Much to my chagrin, congrats to the UofL Cardinals on their football victory. My beloved Cats need to develop a running game or it could be a very long season. Speaking of long seasons, I was the low scorer in fantasy football this past week.

What century will we finally get a new bridge? I have an idea. Lay the politicians side by side across the river and drive over them. They are all full of hot air so buoyancy shouldn’t be a problem. I fail to see why it should take five years to build a bridge. That is what government regulation has caused, it now takes forever to do anything.

Well, wholesale conference jumping hype seems to have been premature. Some conferences have come to their senses and will not grow to behemoth 16 team leagues. It’s not a conference if you are spread throughout the country and only see some teams every 2-3 years. Although if Texas didn’t have their extravagant TV contract, more dominoes may have toppled. Only Texas’ conference, the Big 12, don’t equally share TV revenue leading to an impasse for Texas to try to relocate. Ironically, the biggest casualty of realignment may turn out to be the Big East, the conference that first started the trend of stealing teams wholesale from other conferences. What goes around, comes around.

Until next week, Doc.

Doing the right thing

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Hello again to my trust of readers. Well, it took a while, but good riddance to bad rubbish. The Metro Council finally did the right thing and removed Judy Green out of our lives. Let’s hope the rest of the council follows suit to realize our tax money is not their play money. Speaking of doing the right thing, justice is on the wrong side in the case of the Amish men being jailed for their refusal to display orange triangles on horse and buggies. Whatever happened to religious freedom in this country? It is being trampled on every time religion conflicts with the millions of regulations being thrust on our society by bureaucrats protecting their job security. However, what can you expect in a country being headed up by a Chicago Mafia thug and his cohorts?

The big game is this weekend and I wouldn’t even hazard a guess at the outcome. With the myriad of weaknesses on these two teams, what happens is anyone’s guess. I don’t think any of us will be going bowling this year.

Against all odds, I won my first week of fantasy football. It wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win. I will need team improvement in order to continue my winning ways. Already, injuries are playing a part in the outcome as I have lost two players to injuries. I’ll keep you apprised.

Until next week, Doc.

Hello gang,

Well, the Kentucky State Fair has come and gone for another year. I had a very enjoyable time this year. The weather was great, the oldies concert very entertaining, and I really enjoyed the kid’s exhibit of baby animals. I just wish the fair could find something healthier to advertise than “donut burgers”. This is worse than “heart attack on a bun”.

Football season kicks off this weekend with the UL-UK game. Go Big Blue! Last weekend was our fantasy football draft. I was in the first draft position for the first time, which means I am stacked at Running Back but lacking at Quarter Back and Wide Receiver. It seems every year I come away disappointed in my team but then make a decent showing for the season. I guess I won’t be happy until I have the top players at every position. My office assistant, Shanna, also is getting her first take of fantasy football this year.

Woo hoo! The Reds are on a roll. They now have an eight game lead in a race that is all but over. We now need to set our sights on getting the home field advantage for the playoffs. I feel fortunate to have seen Aroldis Chapman in his last appearance at Slugger Field. I got to watch him warm up at very close range. What a great talent and bright future he has. I am still concerned about the Reds starting pitching and inability to beat other contending teams. Hopefully, all their injuries will heal in time for the playoffs. Go Reds!

‘Til next week, Doc
