Kentucky Kingdom Gets a New Name

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Hello this week to my bevy of loyal readers.  Well, the new office is getting closer to completion.  We are still waiting on ceiling lights, a parking lot, and a couple of other odds and ends but, by and large, most things are functioning.  Now it’s just getting use to it.

I was very surprised to see Holiday World take over Kentucky Kingdom (Bluegrass Boardwalk).  That seems to me to be competing against yourself unless they were afraid of someone else taking over the park.  It seemed to me that it might have just disappeared for good without the intervention by Holiday World.  I hope they know what they are doing.

I was very glad to see the casino gambling bill go under.  All the liberal media keep saying we ought to be allowed to vote on it.  It ruins lives.  We elect representatives to hopefully do what is best for us.  If left up to people to vote, we could have all legalized drugs, legalized prostitution and who knows what else.  Some states are headed down that path because they sell their souls for added tax revenue.  Let us hope Kentucky remains better than that.  If we would cut down on entitlement spending, we wouldn’t need the tax revenue.  If we could do one thing and encourage families to be intact before adding children, we would be so much better off.  All entitlements do is give government more control over our lives.  Anytime the government gives you anything, they can tell you what to do with it and how and when you can use it.  Think about it.

Until next week,  Doc.

We’re Finally Moving In!

Posted by: | Comments (0)
Hello again loyal troop of readers.  I am now definitely a believer in the Cats. To come from behind in one of the toughest places to play in the country was a beautiful thing to behold. Vanderbilt has always been a minis to UK on the road but the Cats are winning with stifling defense and just enough offense to get the job done. I now see them running the table in the conference and then its on to the tournament!

Well the day has finally arrived and we are moving into the new office. Not that it isn’t still putting up its share of computer glitches, equipment troubles, needed changes and modifications.  I think my staff was either planning mutiny or murder on Monday, but they were troopers and we managed our way through it all. Bless my staff for all they put up with and their steadfast dedication. I couldn’t do it without them. My only regret is that my Mother didn’t live long enough to see this day. She would have been proud.

I was pleasantly surprised today when an old friend I haven’t seen in close to 30 years walked into my office. He has recently moved into the Louisville area and took the time to look me up. As another good friend recently commented on her blog about how the world is working its best to tear down relationships by always promising something better is just over the fence, it is good to be reminded of where you come from in order to see where you are going. It is good to reconnect with these who cared about you in the past as well as those who care about you in the present. Contentment starts with yourself and those who love you. If you think the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, remember God’s love and try watering a little more.

Hello again to my loyal readers. I come to you with a heavy heart this week. As many of you are already aware, I lost my mother on Sunday as she returned to be with the Lord. No matter how much advance notice you have, it is always difficult to lose a parent. Making the decision to end life sustaining measures when there is no hope and deciding when is the right time is a gut wrenching event. I feel fortunate for my mother that she didn’t suffer long and she was ready to be with her Lord. I imagine the only harder situations to face would be loss of a spouse or a child. One can rest comfortably, though, knowing she has gone on to a better place where no suffering exists. I want to thank all my friends, staff, relatives, and church family for their thoughts, prayers, concerns, and acts of kindness. I am forever in your debt.

Of course, the week couldn’t have been complete without losing at fantasy football again. This will definitely be my worst year ever. On a positive ending note, my office expansion is coming along nicely and should have wall frames by the end of the week.

Until next week, Doc.

Exciting and Extremely Trying

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Hello again to my assemblage of readers. Whoever said life couldn’t be both exciting and extremely trying at the same time was very wrong. At my office, construction is well underway on our expansion, while at the same time, my staff is under construction as well. My coordinator, Shanna, left last week for the rainy skies of Seattle, Washington and our new coordinator, Julie, was welcomed aboard. We all wish Shanna the best for her future. Next week we welcome back my assistant, Dana, who has been off for six weeks welcoming an addition to her own family, a daughter Charlotte. Next week will also mark the return of Betty, our business assistant, who is vacationing in Gatlinburg.

On the personal side, my mother continues to struggle while in the hospital. She cannot swallow correctly at this time so a peg feeding tube was temporarily inserted to allow for nutritional supplement and delivery of medicines. It is still an uphill battle ahead. I thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.

Changing directions to the sports front, my bad luck has returned in fantasy football as I was drilled this week and lost a quarterback whom I had just picked up. He is out for at least six weeks with an injury. That is the way it has been this year. I’m still waiting for the Reds to make some player movement. I wonder if they suffer from paralysis by analysis. Remember the Josh Hamilton for Edison Volquez trade? Where would be without that trade? Are they maybe afraid of trading the wrong young talent only to watch them bloom elsewhere?

I noted with interest the article in Monday’s Courier Journal by attorney Bill Bardenwerper concerning the onerous process businesses must go through to get a permit in this town. It was a macrocosm of what I have gone through to be able to expand my building. The planning and zoning committees want to dictate everything except the color of the walls. For those of you who didn’t read the article, he noted at least five major construction projects that were abandoned because the companies were a) not willing to spend years to go through the process, b) didn’t want every little building detail dictated to them, or c) didn’t like the parking arrangements being forced upon them. These are big companies such as Wal-Mart that said never mind. Our town will never flourish as it should as long as we allow a few wealthy people such as the River Fields group and a few environmental crazies to dictate the economy of our city. We must stand up to these people and let them know they don’t own our town.

Until next week, Doc
