What hope do we have?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Howdy to all my reader kith. We have now entered into a dead period of the year in my humble opinion. I think January and February, and to a lesser degree, August and September are the lull periods of the year. Having said that, the pundits on the national scene are still talking about the vitriol coming from both sides, which bring the echo of Rodney King “can’t we all just get along”? I’m not sure that will ever happen. WARNING- I’m about to sound like an old codger.

What used to bring us all together in the past was that we could agree on things or at least each generation could agree. In the 50’s we all loved Lucy. In the 60’s we all liked Elvis. In the 70’s we all camped in for Mash. In the 80’s we all laughed at Cosby. Prior to the 60’s we all shared most of the same values and work ethic.

Now the music industry is fractured in at least five directions. We have hundreds of TV channels to pick among and the Oscar nominated movies are mostly heavy, deep, and dull. What do we have to pull us together? The Internet does on occasion serve as Face book until someone decides to change the format to make a nickel on it. At the same time, however, it gives us a format to argue for days on the same topic of minutia.

We used to have sports heroes and movie stars. Now we have Paris Hilton and the drug rehabber of the week. We can now talk on the phone anytime and some of us do, even when it is rude and intrudes on others privacy. Today it seems we can’t even agree to speak the same language! Most of us believe in hard work and self-sufficiency, but many want government socialist programs for all. With nothing to bring us together, what hope do we have?

Until next week, Doc.

French lessons and TV finales

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Bon-jour,

That’s for my preacher who just returned from France. I hope they had a wonderful trip. Speaking of church (Messiah Trinity) our choir, under my humble direction, just completed another season with two wonderful anthems this past Sunday. My kudos to them for all their hard work. On the other hand, our softball team is off to a rough start (0-2). I don’t know if we regressed or the league has progressed.

I don’t know about you, but I object to 90 degrees in May. That is July weather. What’s going to come in July? I refuse to walk the golf course when it’s over 90 degrees. Even high 80’s gives me pause to consider riding.

Wonderful news that forward Terrence James signed with Uof K. That should give us quality and depth at every position. Now if we just hang onto our coach!

I guess I’ll go into TV series withdrawal for a while with the passing finales of two of my favorite shows, Grey’s Anatomy and Lost. I found the Lost finale very satisfying with the 815 crew living out their lives, or not in some cases, and then reuniting to go to heaven. A very rewarding ending. My feelings on Grey’s, however, were not as rosy. While very dramatic, it was in no way realistic. No police department would allow a shooter to wander around a hospital killing for two hours in the age of cell-phones and instant communication. The police ought to sue the writers for slander.

Well, that about wraps it up for this week.

Au revoir, Doc
