WooHoo! Finally a win in fantasy football although I had to sweat it out until Monday night. I’m now off the schnied. It still appears to be a topsy-turvy year in the NFL with more surprises to follow. The baseball playoffs are still up in the air in both leagues. While six of eight spots have been decided, it’s anyone’s guess who will play whom. With the Padres and Giants closing out the season against one another and only ½ game between Yankees and Rays, the matchups may not be known until the last pitch is thrown. All I know for sure is the Reds need wins to try to nail down the #2 seed and avoid the Phillies in the 1st round.
It was sad to hear of the passing of George Blanda. While I am too young to remember his heyday, I fondly remember his kicking exploits on the Raiders champion teams of the 70’s as the grand old man in the NFL. He was one of the main reasons I became interested in football.
Once again my back has risen up to bite me. It actually went out while reaching for my golf shoes on Saturday morning. I wasn’t sure I would be able to get back in the car. The pain was enormous. Sunday morning I barely made it out of bed. However, with rest, ice, and two trips to the chiropractor, it is gradually getting better. I may not have to use a walker after all! This injury did not allow me to enjoy the wonderful weather of the weekend.
Speaking of the weather—what happened to the temps from 75 to 85. We skipped over that span again. I hate when that happens.
Until next week, Doc.
And to think people pay good money to go to saunas when they could just walk outside! My grandparents must have been tougher than me to sit on the porch on days like this. Polls say people will do without heat before they do without air conditioning. Of course if the poll was in winter, it might get a different result. I’m actually looking forward to
rain tomorrow and I never look forward to rain!
Does the newspaper actually have any news anymore? It now reminds me of the tabloids with the whole A section being about either politics or scandals. Why do people care so much about scandals that have no affect on them? Who cares who Rick Pitino slept with? I certainly do not. I wish newspapers would actually present some research driven
news instead of hearsay and sensationalism.
I see the judge is going to allow the states suit against ObamaCare to go forward. Good for them. It is unconstitutional to force people to buy healthcare. It’s also lousy for the government to pass legislation and then expect the cash starved states to bear the cost. We need to pass only things we can pay for. I believe the liberals would cut every service we have and raise taxes to 90% before they would cut entitlements. They just will not risk the votes of the welfare recipients.
Lastly, I can’t get through a week without commenting on the Reds. With a surplus of pitchers and a minor league star with no place to play (Alonzo), why did the Reds not make a deal to bolster their OF. It doesn’t say much either to get to this point in the season and have to be concerned about all three OF positions. They should have known that Gomes was playing way over his head and would drop back to normal. The jury is still out on Jay Bruce and I believe Stubbs has hit a rookie “wall”. Why has Dickerson not been brought back to replace him? I have a real problem with Dusty Baker’s reluctance to platoon at positions and make lineup changes. It must become painfully obvious before he will make any changes. I hope the Reds aren’t hanging onto Alonzo to replace Votto because he will be eligible for free-agency in two years and will probably
command 20 mil/year. The Reds will never get a whole team of price-controlled (less than 6 yrs experience) players to mature together at the same time enough to win, but it seems that’s what they are trying to do. It won’t work!
Well, that’s all for this week. See you for next week’s TWIDL (This Week In Doc’s
Life) notes.
