Hello again loyal troop of readers. I am now definitely a believer in the Cats. To come from behind in one of the toughest places to play in the country was a beautiful thing to behold. Vanderbilt has always been a minis to UK on the road but the Cats are winning with stifling defense and just enough offense to get the job done. I now see them running the table in the conference and then its on to the tournament!

Well the day has finally arrived and we are moving into the new office. Not that it isn’t still putting up its share of computer glitches, equipment troubles, needed changes and modifications. I think my staff was either planning mutiny or murder on Monday, but they were troopers and we managed our way through it all. Bless my staff for all they put up with and their steadfast dedication. I couldn’t do it without them. My only regret is that my Mother didn’t live long enough to see this day. She would have been proud.

I was pleasantly surprised today when an old friend I haven’t seen in close to 30 years walked into my office. He has recently moved into the Louisville area and took the time to look me up. As another good friend recently commented on her blog about how the world is working its best to tear down relationships by always promising something better is just over the fence, it is good to be reminded of where you come from in order to see where you are going. It is good to reconnect with these who cared about you in the past as well as those who care about you in the present. Contentment starts with yourself and those who love you. If you think the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, remember God’s love and try watering a little more.

Until next week, DOC

Hello again to my loyal troop of readers. Just enjoy this early taste of spring. The warm weather this time of year is a blessing from heaven. Of course, since this is Kentucky, won’t last long and then it will be back the grind of winter. The only grind that will be constant this year will be the grind of politics. We will be bombarded with lies, slander, gross exaggerations, and empty rhetoric. While I would have liked to see Newt match up in a debate with Obama, any change will be good. It really does not matter who wins, unless we bring some manufacturing jobs back to the US and cut down on government employees and their perks, all is for naught. We must return to what made us great. That is producing goods and exporting them to other countries
to bring money into our country. It does us no good to keep reshuffling the dollars within our country and even less to keep sending our money to China. Only by creating a positive trade balance can we truly return to greatness.

On the sports front, my beloved Cats are now starting to kick it into high gear. It was pleasure to watch them thrash Tennessee even while wearing those horrible gray uniforms. If I wanted to root for Georgetown, I would have gone there. The Cats now seem to have the aggressiveness around the basket they have been lacking. However, they still are having trouble hitting the 3 ball. It won’t really matter though, as long as they can break down zones. March Madness should be fun.

Until next week, DOC

Hello again to my gathering of readers. First, I must apologize for missing last week. Things were hectic and my staff was not at full complement. It seems a lot has happened in the past week. Most important, my Cats are #1. Of course, I am realistic enough to know they won’t stay there for the rest of the season. Nor do I think it would be a good thing for them to do so. The pressure would be too great. We now know the match up for the Super Bowl. A rematch of five years ago between the spectacular New England Patriots and the surging New York Giants. I have always admired the Patriots and had disdain for the New York “elite”, therefore, Patriots all the way.

It appears we could be in for a long Republican primary season. A combination candidate that combines Newt’s passion and historical knowledge, Romney’s business acumen, Ron Paul’s convictions, and Santorum’s honesty and integrity would be ideal. That candidate, however, isn’t running. At this point, I will settle for the best and most forceful debater who will stand up to Obama and put him in his place and that is Gingrich.

Our state political body is acting more like children than adults with their redistricting plans. Each is trying, while often ignoring the law, to eliminate as many of the other side as possible. This gerrymandering is one of the worst procedures that we allow politicians to do. It is why we have such extreme radical representatives. We need a better reapportioning system and leave the selection up to the voters. That is the way it is suppose to work. Our system of today too highly favors those of extreme positions because they are the ones who donate their time and money most readily. The independents and moderates in this country must find a way for our voices to be heard or things will continue to disintegrate into chaos.

Well, that’s all for now. Until next week, Doc.

To my loyal enclave of readers. Well, another week has passed and it looks like winter has finally taken hold according to the blustering snow I see outside my window. Even though it’s the off season, it looks like the Reds are going to make a genuine run this year. We now boast one of the best bullpens in baseball since signing both Marshall and Madson for the back end of the games. This, combined with the releivers they retained from last year should be solid. If Chapman can make the transition to stater and Arroyo bounces back, the starting staff will be solid as well. All they now need is a left fielder who makes contact and can bat leadoff and they one set. However, it will need to be a trade as no one of any caliber is left on the free-agent market. I am very excited about the upcoming baseball season.

In the courier today, I see that the Supreme Court upheld the right of churches to be free to hire people who follow their beliefs and live up to the moral standards of the church. This is a giant win for religion. This, combined with the attention Tim Tebow has received, is a positive step in the right direction for religion. Our country so badly needs for the church to reassert itself into the daily fabric of our lives. So many anti-religious groups out there would like to bottle us up into an hour on Sunday mornings. Our faith is so much more.

On a closing note, I have another pet peeve. If you are a women that carries an overnite bag for a purse, will you please get your wallet out ahead of time an quit fishing for it after the clerk tells you the amount. Those of us behind you in line will be grateful. Until next week,

Hello again to my loyal consort of readers. I hope everyone has 2012 off to a rousing start. Let’s hear it for Big Blue. They once again reigned supreme in the state. It was an interesting year in a sports year filled with scandal. Among the treasures, however, was a triumphant return to the playoffs for my Cincinnati Bengals and the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49’s. Also a first trip to the playoffs for the Houston Texans. Another great first is a NCAA championship game just within the SEC. As for the Super Bowl, I predict the New Orleans Saints over the New England Patriots. I was on the Pittsburgh Steelers band wagon until Mendenhall wrecked his knee. It is also nice to see the Hoosiers and Pacers relevant again after a several year absence. I am looking forward to another Final Four for my UK Wildcats.

I really enjoyed the article on Josh Harrelson and his first NBA start. He scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds. While not the most physically gifted player, Jhorts just knows how to play. To me, basketball needs more players like him who understand the finer points of the game. Too many players are getting by on skill alone and this makes for a poorer game to watch.

Well, the Iowa Caucus has come and gone. At least now we get some action after all the chatter. It is going to be a long campaign and Kentucky’s vote may actually be relevant for once. I believe in the end Mitt Romney, although not my personal candidate of choice, will emerge the winner. I just wish he would acquire some spunk. If he had Gingrich or Paul’s nerve, he would be a great candidate. It should be interesting.

Until next week, Doc.
