Patriots all the way!

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Hello again to my gathering of readers. First, I must apologize for missing last week. Things were hectic and my staff was not at full complement. It seems a lot has happened in the past week. Most important, my Cats are #1. Of course, I am realistic enough to know they won’t stay there for the rest of the season. Nor do I think it would be a good thing for them to do so. The pressure would be too great. We now know the match up for the Super Bowl. A rematch of five years ago between the spectacular New England Patriots and the surging New York Giants. I have always admired the Patriots and had disdain for the New York “elite”, therefore, Patriots all the way.

It appears we could be in for a long Republican primary season. A combination candidate that combines Newt’s passion and historical knowledge, Romney’s business acumen, Ron Paul’s convictions, and Santorum’s honesty and integrity would be ideal. That candidate, however, isn’t running. At this point, I will settle for the best and most forceful debater who will stand up to Obama and put him in his place and that is Gingrich.

Our state political body is acting more like children than adults with their redistricting plans. Each is trying, while often ignoring the law, to eliminate as many of the other side as possible. This gerrymandering is one of the worst procedures that we allow politicians to do. It is why we have such extreme radical representatives. We need a better reapportioning system and leave the selection up to the voters. That is the way it is suppose to work. Our system of today too highly favors those of extreme positions because they are the ones who donate their time and money most readily. The independents and moderates in this country must find a way for our voices to be heard or things will continue to disintegrate into chaos.

Well, that’s all for now. Until next week, Doc.

Denture problems anyone?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Does your denture fall out when you bend over to tie your shoes? Do you have to add so much glue to hold in your denture that you can’t bring your lips together? Does your mouth stay sore for days from jackhammering the adhesive off your gums?

If these apply to you, mini-implants might be the solution to your problem. They are 4 small screws with heads that fit into sockets placed in your denture and they are stable and retentive. Most patients report a minimum amount of discomfort from the minor surgery involved and while not cheap, they are within most people’s budgets and much cheaper than full size implants. They can be placed and fitted to most existing dentures in just 2-3 hours and immediately utilized. Stay tuned here in the future, as I will show you actual cases, which I have placed in people’s mouths just like yours.

img_0158_editHello there from dental land. I know the header says this is about cosmetic dentistry, but I would like to talk a bit about an alternative to cosmetics, the Gold Crown. For back teeth (molars), it is still the best choice in crowns. There are many situations for which a gold crown is highly preferable to the porcelain crown.

First of all is strength. If you have a tooth that is vertically challenged (short), gold requires much less tooth to be removed than does porcelain. Gold is also much more strong and durable. After all, porcelain is just basically sintered glass particles with some color added.

Second, if you are a bruxer (and we know who you are), gold doesn’t fracture as porcelain often does. Gold also will not wear the opposing tooth down the way porcelain can. Gold does not require the amount of circumferential tooth removal that is required for a porcelain crown. So if your jaw muscles are well developed from genetics, eating, clinching or just talking (ha-ha), consider gold for your molars. They will thank you.

Lastly, if cosmetics are a concern, these teeth are not seen in 95% of people’s smiles. So unless your friends are looking in your mouth with a spelunker’s light, appearance is not a concern.
